Legislation on pulsefishing

Electric fishing as such is currently not allowed under European legislation (EC Reg. 850/98). However the pulse technique is allowed under derogation. In addition, pulse fishing is explored as a method to minimize unwanted by-catches in the demersal fishery (EC Reg. 1380/2013). The EU has also set a number of limitations for electric pulse fishing (i.e. electrical power, use of tickler chains, distance between the electrodes).
